Ethan Jared Rice, 35, of Kailua-Kona died Jan. 3, 2013, at his residence. Born Aug. 2, 1977, in Monroe, Wash., he was a clerk at the Sea Store, a club manager in Minneapolis, a laborer for SR Construction Co. and crewmember on the sailboat KIVA.

Friends may call at 1 p.m. Jan. 24 at Honokohau Boat Harbor at the point for a memorial service. A private scattering of his ashes will follow. Family requests casual attire be worn. Loose flowers are welcome.

He is survived by mother, Linda Swan of Kailua-Kona; stepfather, James Swan of Rapid City, S.D.; father, Jerrold Rice of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Kevin Jacobsen of Livonia, Mich.; hanai brother, Keven Rinkenbach; sisters, Tami (Joseph) Gurnard of East Wenatchee, Wash., Quanah (Kevin) Reid of Sioux Falls, S.D.; other family members on the mainland.
